Motor for Tricycle: Choosing the Right BLDC Motor
A suitable motor for tricycle use should be selected according to the vehicle’s real working conditions.
Light urban transport, farm work, cargo delivery, and industrial utility tricycles may look similar, but their payload, terrain, speed, duty cycle, and transmission requirements can be very different.
Define How the Tricycle Will Be Used
Start with the typical working load rather than only the maximum theoretical load.
Record the vehicle weight, normal payload, wheel diameter, road surface, climbing requirement, desired speed, daily operating time, and number of starts. This information helps determine the required torque, motor speed, and thermal direction.
Different applications have different priorities:
- Cargo tricycles require loaded starting and strong low-speed torque.
- Agricultural tricycles may operate on uneven, dusty, or wet surfaces.
- Utility tricycles often require frequent stopping and compact installation.
- Commercial tricycles need a balance between operating speed and smooth control.
Review Speed and Reduction Together
Motor speed alone does not determine the final vehicle speed.
Wheel size, axle ratio, gearbox or chain reduction, vehicle weight, and payload all affect the final result. The reduction system should provide practical driving speed without reducing the torque required for starting and climbing.
Check Installation and Output Details
Confirm the following mechanical information before ordering:
- Mounting face
- Bolt-hole pattern
- Shaft or spline
- Sprocket specification
- Rotation direction
- Motor body length
- Cable outlet
- Connector format
- Available service space
For replacement projects, compare the existing motor drawing and output interface before confirming a new model.
Plan the Electrical System
The motor should be matched with the battery and controller.
Confirm the system voltage, controller current limits, motor feedback signals, speed control method, forward and reverse functions, braking, protection settings, cable length, and connector format.
Depending on the project, HAGMOTOR can discuss customization of the shaft, sprocket, mounting interface, cable, connector, controller, nameplate, and packaging.
